Other services offer huge amounts of space at higher costs because they know their clients will never use that much storage. AND they include the storage of your access log file in the quota. This log file can easily surpass the storage needed for your entire web site in just a few months.

Also remember, you DON'T want large files on your Web Site because such files will take forever for your visitors to download. A typically long Web Page is only 10K. This means you can store 25000 web pages on your 250 MB site. An average logo for the top of a homepage is 15K. This means you can store 16650 logos on your 250 MB site.

Now, graphic intensive websites do need lots of space. A website that uses thumbnails, like for product catalog info, which expands the images by clicking them, will require lots of room for the full size images. For this purpose we offer the plan with 500 MB of hard drive space. And if this is not enough, we offer more space as an option.

Finally, an average icon/button is 4k. This means you can store 72500 such icons/buttons on your 250 MB web site. Now you decide - just how many pages/logos/buttons do you need?

If you keep your site well maintained, and remove outdated files and materials, you will probably never need more than 250 MBs.

Will I have to pay for a domain name?

You will have to pay $35 per year (two years in advance) directly to InterNIC in order to use your own domain name (i.e., Your_name.COM). You may also choose a domain name such as Yourname.Award2ooo.com to avoid Internic charges. There is no charge for these domain names because we would be acting as the front door to your site. Yet your site would still retain all the benefits described in the features page.

Aren't there less expensive providers on the Internet ?

Yes, but their use of their server is more restrictive also. While many of them advertise "unlimited" access, they really limit the domains to 150MB of hits and downloads per month. They reason that since 150MB could equal downloading 50,000 pages of 20k each, the average customer would never reach that number. In essence, they limit your success!

Another downside is that many of the low cost competitors don't offer your own IP numbers. That is: the initial IP number can get re-assigned (dynamic). Thus accessing your domain by use of the IP only can cause distress. Your customers may not find your site!

Many of our competitors don't offer secure servers with their low prices. It's usually an option which may cost as much as the server space. A secure server allows you the ability to process credit card information once the proper software is installed.

Another shortcoming is that the low cost comptetitors don't offer you a control panel that allows you to configure your server to your needs. With them, if you want spam filters, Front Page, or other utilities installed, you need to contact their support department. With Award 2000 you can do it yourself from the control panel.

At what speed would my website connect?

We have T1 lines for fast connections. However, how fast the pages display on your computer depends on many other variables. If you use a modem, then you are limited to its maximum potential. While some modems operate at 28.8kbps they still could download a maximum throughput of well over 100,000 kbps with data compression (provided that the host computer operates in the same mode).

The same is true for 33.6 and 56K modems. If all the parameters are set right and the host is transmitting in the same mode you could see astonishing results.

Unfortunately, modems vary, intermediate relay servers (routers) vary in speed and bottlenecks in data can occur in places. All that can result in a slow display of your pages. Here are some things that affect the download speed:

• The speed of your modem.
• The speed of the line used by your internet access provider (ISP).
• The speed and availability of routers (remote servers).
• The throughput of the line used by your host server (T1, T3, ISDN, etc.).
• The size of the page you are downloading and the graphics in it.
• Last but not least, the speed of your CPU and the memory available for your browser. I've noticed that when the virtual memory (swap file) in Windows is less than recommended, all downloads slow down drastically because there is more hard disk access. Remember that Windows allocates hard disk space dynamically when the hard drive is almost full.

A word to the wise: use graphics sparingly if you can.

How do I check domain name availability?

Does Award 2ooo handle domain registration?

Yes. We will contact the InterNIC once your account is activated to request either a new domain name registration or a transfer of your domain to our server. You do NOT need to submit a registration template to the InterNIC as this will only delay your request. If you are transferring a domain name, we will fill out the necessary form and have it E-Mailed to you. You then only need to forward the form to Internic.

What is the InterNIC fee for domain registration ?

The InterNIC charges $70 to register a new domain name. This fee covers the first two years. They currently bill at a rate of $35 per year. The InterNIC will send you an invoice via E-Mail a few weeks after the domain is registered. If you have your own InterNic resitrar or if you have previously registered your domain name, then just tell us.

Can I transfer existing domain name to Award 2ooo ?

Yes. When completing the online order form, be sure to specify that you are requesting a transfer and NOT a new domain.

How do I publish my Website?

We recommend that you add your website to the various search engines using the utility in your control panel. It submits your website to the best and largest search engines.  You can also use software or pay for someone to do that for you. for an extra cost, we provide site submission to 400 search engines. Please email with your requriements.

How do I transfer files to my Web Site?

You can use the file tool in your control panel for uploading/downloading your files to the server. It is very easy to to do. You can also use the Net Builder tools in your control panel to design and build your web pages.

If you don't want tot use the control pnale tools, the files must be transferred to the web server via File Transport Protocol (FTP). If you have a PPP internet account and need FTP software. You can get copies of these programs from any shareware house or website like Winsite or Download.com.

If you have Front Page, you can publish your websites directly from your computer to your server. You can also do that from Netscape Composer (version 7 and above) . And Netscape Communicator with Composer is free.

Internet providers such as AOL, Compuserve, and Prodigy may have a built-in FTP interface. You may also access your account via Telnet.

So, we are very flexible as to the method you want to use for uploading your pages.

Will I have unlimited access to update my pages ?

You have unlimited access via the Control Panel, FTP, Telnet or MS Frontpage 24-hours a day. As such, you can create and maintain your web pages on your own computer and upload files to your website at your leisure.

Can multiple domains point to the same HTML files ?

In general, if you have more than one domain account at Award 2ooo we can point each domain address to the same HTML files. There is an additional monthly fee for each domain.

Can I use my account for commercial purposes ?

Of course you can use your account for commercial purposes.

Do you offer any discounts?

Due to our low prices it's very difficult to do so.

Are there any restrictions on the content of or how I use my Web Site ?

Because we have no way to prevent minors from accessing your site, you may not use our servers to publish obscene material or provide a list of links to such material. You may not use your account for mass mailings (mail bombings or spamming) or types of activities which violate generally accepted Internet guidelines.

Do you offer technical support to customers ?

We are happy to assist new customers in setting up their web sites. Most support solutions are found in the control panel. 

How do I set up an account ?

Using our order form , you can apply for your account immediately. There are two steps involved. First, we ask that you carefully review our contract. Please pay close attention to our rules and restrictions. If you are willing to agree to our terms, then it is just a matter of deciding which account is best for you and completing the order form.

How long does it take to set up a new account ?

Orders which include payment information will usually be processed the next day and ready for use within 48 hours! Once an account is set up an activation notice will be sent you via E-Mail. You can begin transferring files to your new Web Site immediately.

Domain account users will be given a temporary URL to access their site via the web prior to the completion of either domain registration or transfer.
